PROPOSED SYMBOLIC STRUCTURE AS AN HOMAGE TO THE CITIZEN OF JAPAN
1st PLACE-PROJECT OF THE YEAR COMPETITION
THE EUROPEAN UNION+EMILIO EMBAZ AWARD FOR GREEN ARCHITECTURE+ AI MAGAZIN
The structure is designed simply and minimally, 8 meters in diameter, and with a system of columns 34 meters high, capable of bowing according to the velocity of wind around them.
This concept of the structure’s columns bowing according to the wind was inspired by the Gohei that sway with the wind. The bowing of the columns to the wind also expresses the acceptance of nature’s power vis-à-vis man and his actions. The design of the bench at the base of the structure, where the person visiting the site may quietly contemplate the past events - parallel to the movement of the columns up above - aspires to express the direct and harmonious connection between nature and man.
The suitable site of the structure may within an urban park domain, or a natural area. The structure is without a roof, and delineates a sitting area that may be entered. It requires very little maintenance, and is of great public and architectural presence, potentially serving as a local landmark.
